WP: Arms orders for Ukraine saved some US towns from privation
Arms orders from the US government for Ukraine are saving the economy of small US towns.
The Washington Post reported on this.
As part of these orders, the federal government has allocated nearly $175 billion to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Although a small portion of the allocated funds was transferred to Ukraine, the majority of the package remains in the United States.
First of all, the Pentagon allocates significant funds for the purchase of weapons from companies located in small towns as part of its arms orders.
One of these towns is Scranton, Pennsylvania, home to the Army’s M795 155mm artillery shell factory.
Shells produced at this facility are then shipped to Iowa, where they are filled with explosives.
Thanks to these investments, General Dynamics has been able to increase its staff by more than 200 jobs since the beginning of 2022.
In addition, the production of artillery ammunition has more than doubled, allowing the company to produce more than a third of 155 mm shells that the United States sends to Ukraine.
Also in the neighboring town of Carbondale, where Gentex’s facilities are located, the workforce has increased by 10%.
For its part, the Schott company, which specializes in the production of high-tech optical products in the city of Duryea, Pennsylvania, has increased its staff by dozens of jobs in the last 5 years.
Militarnyi previously reported that Saab would build a new infantry weapons plant in Grayling, Michigan.
