Xi Jinping signs directive on Chinese army “non-war” military operations

China’s leader Xi Jinping signed a directive that allows for Chinese army “non-war” military operations. The decree comes into force on June 15.

Such a decision raises concerns that Beijing may be preparing to invade Taiwan under the guise of a “special operation,” the publication notes.

The full text of the document is not currently available. China’s state agency Xinhua said the directive systematically regulates organization and command, types of operations, operational support, and political work.

“The outlines aim to protect people’s lives and property, safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interest, and safeguard world peace and regional stability,” Xinhua reports.

The document consists of 6 chapters that “serve as a legal basis for military operations other than war.”

Radio Free Asia emphasizes that the message appeared after the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for a diplomatic solution to the military action threat in the Taiwan Strait.

He said this on June 11, speaking at the 19th Asian Security Summit (Shangri-La Dialogue), answering questions about what could be done to counter China’s campaign of economic and military coercion against Taiwan.

Previously, the Minister of Defense of China said that the country does not consider Russia as an ally and does not supply it with weapons.
