He congratulated the domestic defense industry on this.

The tests were successful.

“The first Ukrainian ballistic missile was tested, and it was a positive test,” the President of Ukraine shared during the forum.

He emphasized that he did not intend to announce this at first but decided to inform the public about the results of the work of people working in the domestic defense industry.

“Since we have come to this, what other achievements of Ukraine are there, I thought it was too early to talk about it, but I would like the public to assess this, our people who work 24/7 at defense enterprises.”

In early August, it was announced that the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers had allocated additional funds for the country’s missile program.

Two weeks earlier, the President had shared that Ukraine was approaching the use of domestic ballistic missiles, and today, on August 27, 2024, he officially confirmed the successful tests.

Back in June 2023, Militarnyi discussed that Ukraine has good prospects for producing its own long-range missiles with a range of destruction of enemy targets at a distance of a thousand kilometers or more. At the time, Oleksiy Reznikov, then-Minister of Defense, spoke on this.

In February 2022, before the start of Russia’s large-scale aggression, Ukraine allocated several hundred million hryvnias for the missile industry, which, in particular, provided funding for creating a domestic operational and tactical complex known as Sapsan and Hrim-2.
