Germany will supply Ukraine with the sixth IRIS-T system by the end of this year

Germany will transfer the sixth IRIS-T air defense system to Ukraine by the end of this year.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced this after a conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

It is worth noting that Zelenskyy did not specify whether the system in question is SLS or SLM.

The systems differ in chassis, missiles, and target interception range.

The leaders also discussed the delivery of air defense equipment next year and the prospects for additional air defense assistance from Germany.

Zelensky and Scholz coordinated the steps needed to ensure the best possible defense and political support for Ukraine, and the leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting in Ramstein format and holding the next meeting of the coordination group.

Militarnyi previously reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Germany ordered 17 IRIS-T air defense systems for Ukraine.

By the end of this year, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are to receive two medium-range IRIS-T SLM and two short-range IRIS-T SLS systems.

Military assistance from Germany

On November 11, Militarnyi informed that Rheinmetall and Ukraine, with the support of the German government, signed a contract for the provision of satellite reconnaissance services.

Thanks to this agreement, Ukraine receives more data from satellites equipped with ICEYE’s synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

As previously reported, Germany will be able to provide most of the €4 billion promised to Ukraine for military support, even if the 2025 budget is not approved in time after the collapse of the coalition government.

These funds are mostly earmarks and can therefore be allocated within the framework of the interim budget management, even if the budget itself is not adopted.
