Bulgaria has received compensation from Denmark for the equipment and weapons transferred to Ukraine.

The Information Center of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense reported on this.

The National Assembly’s decision states that the funds will be invested exclusively in military modernization projects.

In early December 2024, Bulgaria allocated the 7th defense assistance package with various weapons to Ukraine.

Traditionally, information about the contents of the package is not announced and remains secret.

The samples previously used by the Bulgarian army and transferred to Ukraine include various Soviet production systems or were manufactured in Bulgaria during its socialist past.

The assistance packages include old Soviet-era systems and ammunition that, despite their age, are in good working order and that the Ukrainian military already knows how to use without the need for additional training.

In particular, Bulgaria has sent to Ukraine all the BTR-60 armored personnel carriers that were promised last year, which have been in the Bulgarian Ministry of Internal Affairs inventory since the 1980s.

In November 2023, Bulgaria’s National Assembly ratified an intergovernmental agreement between Sofia and Kyiv that regulates the transfer of 100 decommissioned armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.

Deliveries to Ukraine were made in February-March 2024 and, according to available information, are due to undergo maintenance, repair, and partial modernization. You can read more about one of the vehicle upgrade options in the article “BTR-60D modernization presented in Ukraine”.

In addition to military assistance from Bulgaria, its defense industry produces weapons for Ukraine. Most of the weapons produced by Bulgaria’s defense industry go to Ukraine.

These are mainly artillery ammunition of various calibers, infantry weapons, and ammunition for them.
