A batch of 122-mm artillery shells, funded by Slovak citizens, was delivered to Ukraine.

The Czech initiative Darek pro Putin raised funds and shipped the shells.

The batch of 2702 artillery shells cost the volunteers €4 million.

This fundraising was created as a reaction of Slovak citizens who wanted to oppose the decision of Robert Fico’s government to stop military aid to Ukraine and not to join the Czech ammunition initiative.

Fundraisers share that the campaign aims to show that the majority does not agree with the government’s change in foreign policy after the September elections.

“After consultations with the Ukrainian side, we want to buy primarily 122 mm ammunition, which Ukraine can use in old weapons systems,” Darek pro Putin initiative reported.

Ukrainian artillery uses the 122 mm shells when working with D-30 howitzers and 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzers.

In the video that launched the campaign, one of its initiators, 99-year-old journalist Otto Simko, said that Russia should be expelled from Ukraine so that “peace can be discussed on terms consistent with Ukrainian independence.”

“When I heard about the Czech government’s initiative, I was very pleased to hear that all ways are being sought to help Ukraine defend itself against the (Russian) aggressor because there is no other way,” Simko noted.

Previously, the Slovak Prime Minister claimed that his country had nothing more to give to Ukraine.

Robert Fico emphasized that Slovakia had nothing more to give to Ukraine, criticizing the previous government for providing Ukraine with the S-300 system. He said he would never have done so.

As previously reported, Ukraine received over a third of the 500,000 ammunition shells planned for delivery in 2024 within the Czech initiative.
