45 Indian citizens inducted into Russian army discharged
45 Indian citizens have been rescued from the war zone and discharged from the Russian military, but fifty more Indian nationals continue to fight on the side of Russia against Ukraine.
The Indian TV channel NDTV reported that the Indian Foreign Ministry was making efforts to free the remaining citizens.
45 Indian citizens, according to the report, were illegally made to join the Russian army and fight for them on battle fronts against Ukraine.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised the issue of the release of Indians from the Russian army during his visit to Moscow.
In the spring, Indian intelligence agencies uncovered a large human trafficking network whose members deceitfully recruited young men to Russia, where they were forced to sign contracts with the Russian Defense Ministry and sent to fight in Ukraine.
Two of the arrested, according to Indian authorities, were directly recruiting men in the southern states of the country.
According to the investigation, all victims of the criminals were offered to travel to Russia under the pretext of finding a job or assistance in entering universities.
They recruited their victims on social media and through local companies, including travel agencies.
The deceived Indian citizens were promised a salary of 45,000 rupees per month ($540) for the first three months, which would gradually increase to 1.5 lakh rupees ($1,800).
After working for a year, they were allegedly entitled to a Russian passport and citizenship.
In April, the Indian Foreign Ministry reported that ten previously recruited men had returned home from Ukraine. Several Indian citizens were killed on the front lines.
As previously reported, Russia created a special unit that recruits mercenaries in several African countries.
