Approximately 600 Russians were taken prisoner by the Defense Forces – Vereshchuk
Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, approximately 600 Russians have been taken prisoner by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Militarnyi reports about this with reference to the statement of Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister for Reintegration of the Occupied Territories, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine.
She stated that soon, according to the international laws, a special camp would be set up for their detention in Ukraine. A meeting discussing the creation of such an institution took place today.
The question of the Ukrainians captured by ruscists was also brought up in the same meeting:
Most importantly, they talked about how to force Russia to allow the Red Cross access our prisoners, force Russia to release our prisoners, some of whom, including women, have been kept in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since 2014.
We previously reported that Ukraine has already conducted several prisoner exchanges with Russia.
Part of the garrison of the Zmiyinyi Island and the crew of the “Sapphire” vessel had been freed during one of them.
86 Ukrainian servicemen, including 15 women, had been brought back home home during the second.
