Artillery hits elements of Russian 35N6 Kasta radar
Specialists of the 15th ‘Black Forest’ Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade directed artillery to strike the Russian Kasta radar station.
The video was posted on the brigade’s official Facebook page.
The artillery hit two Kasta elements located close to each other: a radar and an operating truck.
A user on X identified that the radar elements could have been located near the village of Chornukhyne in the Luhansk region.
Judging by the last frames of the video, the radar elements were disabled after the attack, most likely beyond repair.
Two munitions were used to hit the elements of the Kasta, suggesting that rocket artillery, including M142 HIMARS, may have been used.
It should be noted that Militarnyi reported the destruction of a 35N6 Kasta by a Special Operations Forces drone on June 3 and another version of the 39N6 Kasta-2E2 by rocket artillery on August 14.
The difference between the 35N6 Kasta and the 39N6 Kasta-2E2 can be spotted in the antenna mast: the Kasta has two antennas, while the Kasta-2E2 has one.
35N6 Kasta
The 35N6 Kasta is a UHF-band low-altitude two-coordinate surveillance radar.
It is designed to control airspace, determine coordinates, and identify air targets, including targets at extremely low altitudes.
The radar can determine the trajectory characteristics of air targets and flight altitude based on detecting targets in the lower, upper, or both beams.
Information on the coordinates and parameters of air target movement is transmitted to air defense systems via radio channels or cable communication lines, with the possibility of digital and/or analog communication.
The radar is also used for air traffic and airspace control in airfield areas.
The station consists of a hardware vehicle, an antenna vehicle, and a cable-stacking trailer – all based on the KamAZ-4310. The package also includes the main and backup power plants and the operator’s remote workplace, which can be located at a distance of up to 300 meters.
