Defense forces of Ukraine withdrew from Soledar

The Ukrainian military withdrew from Soledar to the prepared positions.

Serhii Cherevaty, Spokesman for the Operational Command East of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told Suspilne about this.

“To save the lives of the personnel, the Defense Forces retreated from Soledar to prepared positions. We completed the main task: did not allow the enemy to systematically breakthrough in the Donetsk direction of the frontline and enter the rear, and later move to the operational space,” Cherevaty reported.

He also emphasized that the Ukrainian forces were acting in a way to effectively maneuver and exhaust the enemy.

“The front line was aligned: there was no encirclement, no capture (of our troops). We cannot afford the luxury that our enemy has of simply throwing fighters to the slaughter. We are trying to maneuver, fire, use small group tactics to exhaust the enemy as much as possible,” he added.

As previously reported, enemy troops started an active assault on Soledar at the beginning of January. At the same time, it was reported that the invaders transferred the professional fighters of the Wagner PMC to this direction.

Soledar is located 20 km away from Bakhmut, where active hostilities have been ongoing since the summer of last year.

The soldiers from the positions of the Bakhmut direction report that the invader assault groups continue trying to advance and do not pay attention to their losses.
