Denmark becomes the first NATO country to buy Ukrainian weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Denmark will finance the purchase of Ukrainian-made weapons to equip the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of military assistance.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umierov, told about it.
On June 13, in Brussels, Ukraine and Denmark signed a memorandum on the purchase of weapons and military equipment from Ukrainian manufacturers within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format.
“This is a big step, as Denmark has become the first foreign NATO country to invest in arms production in Ukraine. This is a confirmation that the Ukrainian defense industry is ready for international cooperation and is able to meet the highest standards,” Rustem Umierov said.
The first contract will be signed soon.
“We are at the final stage, so the first contract will be signed very soon. Legally, all the approvals with Denmark have been completed,” the Minister said.
According to him, Ukraine is constantly emphasizing investment attraction, which depends on trust and processes that can simplify the procedure.
The minister said that investing countries had two options: reimbursing Ukraine or paying instead of Ukraine.
“So far, this is a basic mechanism, and it has already produced results. Some countries have already made public commitments, and now other countries have joined them. As soon as we have the opportunity, we want to let countries know that they will invest, but we proposed the mechanisms and procedure. And for us, this is a trust for our country. And this year we will receive the products they are investing in,” Umierov explained.
In April, it became known that Denmark had become the first country to support a $28.5 million project to purchase Ukrainian weapons.
It is known that in March, in order to start cooperation and sign the first orders, the Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen visited several Ukrainian defense companies and assessed their capacities.
Danish MPs and government representatives were shown samples that can be purchased as part of military aid for Ukraine. Among them is the Bohdana self-propelled howitzers.
