DIU: FPV drone operators destroy Russian Zoopark-1 counter-battery radar
Ukrainian intel officers used drones to burn down a Russian 1L219M Zoopark-1 counter-battery radar.
The video of the combat mission of the Ukrainian drone operators was published by the press service of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.
The enemy radar was detected and destroyed by the soldiers of the Wings unit, which is part of the DIU’s Active Operations Department.
The movement and deployment of the Russian radar was tracked by a Ukrainian military drone.
It is likely that the video from its camera helped determine the location of the enemy’s equipment and subsequently strike at it.
The DIU said that Ukrainian intelligence officers had used four long-range FPV drones to destroy the Russian Zoopark-1 radar.
After the first hits, the Russians tried to flee, but they failed and the radar station burned down in the middle of the field.
The intelligence agency does not specify in which part of the frontline this happened, only noting that this Russian counter-battery radar is expensive.
Zoopark-1
The 1L219M Zoopark-1 is a Russian reconnaissance and fire control radar system. It is designed for reconnaissance and detection of firing positions of ground artillery systems such as gun artillery, MLRS and mortars.
The radar determines the position of artillery by detecting the flight path of various ammunition during firing. The system can also be used to adjust the fire of its own artillery.
The radar station is mounted on a multipurpose MT-LBu tracked chassis. The radar itself has a phased array antenna. The manufacturer claims that the counter-battery radar is capable of detecting the positions of 120 mm mortar at a distance of up to 17 kilometers, 105 mm and 155 mm howitzers at a distance of up to 12 kilometers, and BM-21 Grad and BM-27 Uragan multiple launch rocket systems fire at a distance of up to 40-45 kilometers.
In September, the aerial reconnaissance of the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade of the Ukrainian Defense Forces detected and directed rocket artillery at a Russian Zoopark-1M counter-battery radar station in the East.
