Dutch politicians call for the transfer of fighter jets to Ukraine
Dutch politicians addressed the country’s Prime Minister with a proposition to create an international coalition for the transfer of aircraft to Ukraine and the deployment of a training program for Ukrainian pilots.
Sjoerd Wiemer Sjoerdsma, a Dutch MP, stated this on social media.
An initiative group of parliamentarians urged the government to study the topic of training Ukrainian pilots on modern fighters such as the F-16 and Eurofighter Typhoon before deciding on supply or exchange with Central European nations.
It was also proposed to create a coalition with like-minded countries to transfer aircraft to Ukraine “since Ukraine has asked the Netherlands and other countries to provide fighter jets to protect against Russian aggression.”
MPs published a copy of the address to the Prime Minister on social media.
Member of Parliament Alexander Hammelburg, who is a member of the initiative group, commented on the need to deploy the training program for Ukrainian pilots as soon as possible.
“You can’t just deploy fighter jets in Ukraine without training. Therefore, start preparing Ukrainians now so as not to delay us as soon as aviation is needed to protect the country from a new large-scale Russian offensive,” Hammelburg said on social media.
The appeal states that modern fighter jets such as the F-16 are advanced and complex weapons systems that require significant training and time to integrate into the Ukrainian armed forces.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Netherlands is ready to consider Ukraine’s requests to supply American-made F-16 fighter aircraft.
Prime Minister Mark Rutte stated this at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, which was held in Hague on January 31.
Mark Rutte, like Macron, believes that there are no taboos on supporting Ukraine for its victory in the war with Russia.
