Estonia Finds Potential Ammunition Sellers to Assist Ukraine’s Defense
Estonia has found an opportunity to purchase several billion euros worth of ammunition for the Ukrainian army if the allies provide funds.
Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur stated this in his interview with Postimees.
Pevkur announced Estonia’s ability to provide such assistance at the last meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the Ramstein format.
“Estonia has a wide range of countries from which we could buy shells for Ukraine,” said the Estonian Defense Minister.
However, Estonia does not have enough budget to finance such purchases, so the country addressed its allies with this issue.
“If anyone is ready to make a financial contribution, they should contact us. We have the ability to purchase shells for Ukraine, including in large quantities and quickly,” said Hanno Pevkur.
Hanno Pevkur added that the shells were found mostly in non-European countries, but there are suppliers in Europe as well.
“In many cases, the seller does not want this to be known. The orders include both 155mm and 152mm shells,” explained Hanno Pevkur.
Estonia is aware of proposals worldwide that encompass all the calibers needed by Ukraine.
These include 122mm ammunition for Grad rocket launchers, 122mm artillery shells for D-30, and 152mm and 155mm shells.
“If we combine the potential purchases of the Czech Republic, our purchasing capabilities, and those of the British, I dare say that we could send 2-2.5 million shells to Ukraine this year if we had the funding,” the minister said.
As previously reported, the German government will allocate funds to purchase 180,000 artillery shells for Ukraine under the Czech initiative.
