Finland Will Update Border Security Information System
Finland has selected companies to upgrade the Border Guard’s security information system.
Patria announced this on the official website.
The contractor for this order will be a joint venture of the SPOT consortium, which includes two Finnish defense leaders – Patria and Solita.
The SPOT consortium formed by Patria and Solita won the Finnish Border Guard’s operational information system user applications (RAVALU) tender.
The company will develop a corresponding upgrade package as part of the creation of more flexible and user-friendly programs for the demanding use of security agencies.
The operational information system of the Finnish Border Guard will be renewed between 2025–2027.
“For Patria, RAVALU is a significant project that strengthens Patria’s position as a provider of comprehensive security and a supplier of key safety-critical management systems. The cooperation with Solita is smooth and together we are extremely committed to delivering a new wide-ranging information system to the Border Guard,” says Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President, Finland Division, Patria.
One of Patria’s key areas of expertise is software expertise, which includes intelligence, control and management systems. Patria has decades of strong experience in demanding system and equipment deliveries to various Defense Forces.
The strengthening of the border is happening because of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Finland’s border with Russia is 1,343 kilometers long.
Militarnyi previously reported that Finland planned to build 200 kilometers of stationary fences on the border with Russia by the end of 2026.
Construction is taking place in the Nuijamaa and Vainikkala areas. The fence will be 17 kilometers long.
Erkki Matilainen, the Finnish Border Guard’s project manager, also stated that over 50 kilometers of the barrier zone in southeastern Finland, North Karelia, and Kainuu had been cleared of trees. In addition, some changes were made to the original fence design: the fence will be half a meter higher, about 3.5 meters high, and the fence network will be denser.
