Germany donates 14 pickup trucks to the National Guard of Ukraine
Germany donated 14 pickup trucks to the National Guard of Ukraine to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure.
The National Guard of Ukraine reported on this on Telegram.
“The National Guard of Ukraine has received 14 Volkswagen Amarok vehicles from the Stabilization Platform with funding from the German Foreign Ministry. The vehicles were transferred with the participation of Tim Prange, Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine,” the statement reads.
According to Lieutenant General Volodymyr Hordiychuk, Deputy Commander of the National Guard, more than 500 mobile and stationary groups of the National Guard reinforce the state’s air defense system every day, destroying enemy attack drones and missiles. At the beginning of the year, they shot down more than 100 Shahed drones.
According to the German Embassy in Ukraine, in addition to the 14 pickup trucks that have been delivered, 16 more are on the way.
This is not the first time that the German Embassy in Ukraine has donated pickup trucks to the National Guard to protect critical infrastructure. On June 14, 5 Toyota pickup trucks were delivered to the National Guard of Ukraine.
“As part of our cooperation with the German Embassy, we received the first batch of aid to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure. This is something our partners could have provided right away. It is extremely important for the National Guard of Ukraine to improve the capabilities of our units that perform the tasks of protecting and defending critical infrastructure,” Colonel Volodymyr Hrabchak emphasized.
These transfers are part of the Stabilization Platform project of the German Federal Foreign Office. It is designed to protect and help restore Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, which has been severely damaged by Russia’s full-scale invasion.
In mid-August, the Defense Procurement Agency delivered 154 Great Wall Wingle 5 pickup trucks to the military. The pickup trucks were received as a result of procurement in the Prozorro system.
The tender to purchase pickup trucks had 11 participants. The supplier won with a price of UAH 996 thousand per vehicle, including VAT.
The total value of the contracts is UAH 153 million, of which approximately UAH 40 million is duties, taxes, and fees that will be returned to the country’s budget.
The pickup trucks have all-wheel drive and a 143 horsepower two-liter diesel engine that meets the Euro 4 standard and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
