Germany is seeking funds to increase military aid to Ukraine
The German government is seeking additional funds to increase military support for Ukraine in 2024.
Bild reported on this.
The government is experiencing a shortage of funds that could be used to purchase weapons for Ukraine, as the situation on the front line is becoming increasingly difficult.
In addition to ordering weapons for Ukraine, these funds are spent on purchasing weapons for the German army, which transfers them to Ukraine from its depots.
According to Bild, out of the €7.1 billion of aid allocated to Ukraine in 2024, most of it has already been distributed.
Currently, there is a balance of €300 million that will be used to purchase artillery shells and weapons.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to start discussions on the extraordinary spending to be approved by the parliament in June.
Minister of Finance Christian Lindner fully supports the allocation of additional funds and notes:
We cannot allow Germany to fail to strengthen Ukraine’s defense. If possible, we should supply more weapons this year,” the Minister said.
The publication reports that the formation of a new aid budget for 2025 will be much more difficult, as some politicians are not satisfied with the growing financial gap in the federal budget.
Militarnyi previously reported that Canada will finance the purchase of anti-aircraft missiles for the IRIS-T air defense systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Thus, the country will contribute to the Coalition of Air Defense for Ukraine, headed by Germany.
