The Hellenic Air Force received two upgraded F-16V fighters.

The country’s Ministry of Defense reported about this.

The aircraft handover ceremony took place on September 12 at the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) base in Tanagra.

These are the first aircraft to undergo modernization through the program, which started back in 2020. It covers the improvement of 83 F-16 Block 50/52 fighters to the F-16V configuration (Block 70/72, “Viper”).

In April 2018, the Greek government approved an agreement with the US to upgrade to the F-16V “Viper” configuration.

The program is implemented at the HAI facilities. According to the plan, it should expand the combat capabilities and prolong the operation of the F-16 until 2048.

The F-16V has a new AN/APG-83 phased array radar by Northrop Grumman. The new onboard computer is supplied by Raytheon.

The F-16V also has a Link 16 information exchange system, a modern display, a reinforced EW system, and a collision avoidance system.

In addition, the latest upgrade of the F-16 fighter aircraft is equipped with the F110-GE-129 engine by General Electric.
