Italy will continue military assistance to Ukraine in 2025
The Italian Parliament has supported continuing military assistance to Ukraine in 2025.
ANSA reported on this.
The Italian government will officially be able to support Ukraine and transfer weapons until December 31, 2025.
According to the vote results, 192 MPs voted in favor of extending the aid, while 41 voted against.
It should be noted that Italy’s military support for Ukraine is not widely publicized, and most military aid packages are delivered without public statements or press releases.
Nevertheless, Italy is currently reported to be involved in supplying Ukraine with Storm Shadow cruise missiles, along with the British and French governments.
Italy’s participation in the supply of this type of missile became reported by accident. Thus, during the visit of the UK Secretary of Defense Grant Shapps to the MBDA UK production site, where British Storm Shadow missiles are assembled and modernized, the Minister shared that, in addition to France and Britain, Italy also supplies missiles.
In addition, Italy has also supplied Puma armored personnel carriers, which the government has never reported in the media or mentioned in official documents.
Previously, after meeting with his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto in Kyiv on January 17, 2025, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov told the media that a new military aid package was on its way to Ukraine.
Umierov also informed that he and Crosetto had agreed to strengthen defense cooperation between Ukraine and Italy. Separately, the defense ministers of the two countries discussed joining forces in the defense industry. Ukraine and Italy are planning to launch joint ventures and other initiatives to maximize support for the Ukrainian defense sector.
Militarnyi previously reported that Ukraine and Italy considered the possibility of using the proceeds from frozen Russian assets to purchase air defense systems.
In addition to discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense, representatives of the Ministry of Strategic Industry and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were introduced to the products of Italian defense companies.
