Kursk region: Ukrainian government had set up a military commandant’s office
The Ukrainian government had set up the first military commandant’s office in the part of the Kursk region controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported on this at a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.
It is reported that Major General Eduard Moskalev became the head of the newly created commandant’s office.
Syrskyi also reported that since the start of the operation, the Ukrainian military has reached a depth of 35 km and is now controlling 1,150 square kilometers of Russian territory.
In 2012, Major General Moskalev headed the 300th Tank Training Regiment of the 169th Training Center of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, and later, between March 15 and June 20, 2022, he served as the Commander of the Joint Forces.
Since June 2022, Moskalev had been the commander of an operational and tactical group of troops on the eastern front.
As of 2023, he was the commander of the Odesa operational-strategic group.
On August 14, the Ukrainian government announced that it was considering establishing a military commandant’s office in the Kursk region’s government-controlled part.
They also discussed allowing representatives of the UN and the International Red Cross to access the region and opening humanitarian corridors to Ukraine and Russia.
Militarnyi previously reported that more than a hundred Russian soldiers laid down their arms and surrendered to Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region.
The released drone video shows about 60 captured soldiers tied up or lying down.
Later, Insider UA reported that SSU special forces captured 102 Russian POWs.
