Lithuania sent a group of instructors to Germany to train the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The press service of the Armed Forces of Lithuania reported this.

The training mission is part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) for Ukrainians, which was established last November.

The first group of instructors of the infantry brigade of the Armed Forces of Lithuania left for Germany on April 11.

Lithuanian soldiers, along with German and Belgian instructors, will participate in the Bundeswehr-led multinational military training program for the Ukrainian military.

“We are deploying to Germany as a Training Team focused on transferring skills and knowledge to the Ukrainian military. We will dedicate the entire span of the mission to training the troops fighting for the freedom of the country. We hope not only to share knowledge but learn something that we will be able to use in ensuring our own national security,” said Captain Tomas Skerstonas, Commander of the Lithuanian Instructors Team in the training mission.

The EUMAM Ukraine activities include training Ukrainian servicemen in basic weapon handling firing, marksmanship, medical and engineer skills training, and collective training of units of various levels with an emphasis on offensive and defensive actions in urban and forested areas.

In March, Lithuania announced the transfer of 155 mm ammunition to Ukraine. The military aid package also includes vehicles and military rations.

Lithuania is also training the Ukrainian military to maintain M113 tracked armored personnel carriers and PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers.

Lithuanian military personnel introduces the theoretical knowledge to the Ukrainian servicemen. They demonstrate the structure of armored personnel carriers, self-propelled howitzers, and their mechanical components in practice.

Ukrainians are also trained to use 60 mm mortars. In skilled hands, this weapon is an effective means of fire support for infantry during assaults and other military operations.

Military assistance that Lithuania provides to Ukraine includes a variety of weapons, ammunition, thermal imaging, drones, anti-drone equipment, military training, etc.
