Lithuania to produce “strategic weapons” in cooperation with Ukraine
Lithuania and Ukraine have reached a preliminary agreement on developing joint production of “strategic weapons” in Lithuania.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense reported on this.
During a meeting between Lithuanian Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė, Senior Advisor to the President of Ukraine on Strategic Issues Oleksandr Kamyshyn, and Minister of Strategic Industry of Ukraine Herman Smetanin, a preliminary agreement was reached on the production of strategic weapons systems in Lithuania in cooperation with Ukraine.
“Ukraine’s defense industry has incredible potential to become a world-class player thanks to its high level of expertise based on direct combat experience, the motivation and competence of its engineers, and the future-oriented thinking of key decision-makers in the industry. However, we are striving for even closer cooperation to develop joint Lithuanian-Ukrainian arms production both in Lithuania and Ukraine,” Defense Minister Dovilė Šakalienė noted.

In addition, she announced that Lithuania would continue to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry by purchasing from Ukraine for Ukraine. €20 million has already been allocated for this purpose.
“We will always be grateful to Lithuania for its support from day one. And the simultaneous development of the defense industry in Lithuania is a strong next step that strengthens NATO’s eastern flank,” Oleksandr Kamyshyn stated.
The specific types of weapons covered by the agreement cannot be disclosed for security reasons. However, the Ministry of Defense reports that joint meetings between representatives of Lithuania and Ukraine will be held in Lithuania in the near future to discuss the agreement details.
This is not the first such agreement between Lithuania and Ukraine. In November 2024, the countries signed a cooperation agreement between Lithuania and Ukraine on developing the defense industry.

The parties undertake to cooperate by implementing and supporting the production of weapons, ammunition, and other planned defense projects of Ukrainian and Lithuanian companies.
As well as developing capabilities for producing ammunition and key components, including explosives, in both countries.
In addition, the plan is to jointly develop advanced solutions to ensure technological advantage, conduct joint research projects, and jointly develop advanced technologies in the defense industry.
