Lukashenko threatens to attack Kyiv with the Polonez system
Alexander Lukashenko, self-appointed President of the Republic of Belarus stated that he gave an order to “have a target” on the government buildings in Kyiv.
The dictator announced this during his speech on the occasion of the Independence Day of the country.
Lukashenko made it clear that he plans to use the “Polonez” multiple rocket launcher system.
In his words, the reason for attacking Ukraine might be the attack on Belarusian objects: Mozyr refinery and Lunynets airbase (both actively used by the Russian military aviation for the bombing of Ukraine since the first days of the Russian invasion).
“A little less than a month ago, I had ordered the Armed Forces to “lock target” on the decision-making centers in your capitals as it is now fashionable to speak… I have been preparing for this for a long time, remember, I told you all the time – “Polonez…” You are completely under the attack range of these missiles. And I don’t care who is sitting there in the offices or palaces,” – articulated the Belarusian dictator his threats.
Lukashenko also accused Ukraine of trying to strike Belarus. Such an attempt had allegedly occurred “three days ago.” However, according to the self-appointed head of the state, the missile was shot down by the Pantsir missile system.
Lukashenko said that “no Belarusian soldier” is fighting against Ukraine. However, previously, he allowed himself to state that Belarus would have to fight for Western Ukraine. Before the Russian invasion, Lukashenko claimed that he and Putin would do everything so that “Ukraine was ours” and argued that the war would last only a few days.
Back in 2017, Mariner, editor of Militarnyi, drew attention to the threats to Ukraine that arise as a result of the Belarusian missile program. In recent years, Belarus in cooperation with China has developed the “Polonez” missile system.

In 2016, the Polonez system passed state trials and was adopted into service by the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. Currently, the missile system is in service of the 336th Rocket Artillery Brigade (Osipovichi).
In 2017, the Belarusian military tested the Polonez complex with the Chinese А300 missiles with a range of 290 km. This allows using of “Polonez” for the operational and tactical range missions.
