“Murena” backpack belt feed systems developed for AFU’s M240s
The Ukrainian military has received a batch of backpack belt feed systems for American M240 machine guns.
The servicemen reported about that showing footage of the test of the system.
The system allows to continuously feed cartridges to the machine guns such as M240, PKM and its modifications.
These backpacks are made by Ukrainian specialists, who called their system “MURENA”.
The specialists are constantly working to improve “MURENA” and adapt the system to various types of machine guns.
“For us, the need of Ukrainian soldiers to optimize the ways of transferring and quickly using increased ammunition to the machine gun became obvious,” the system’s manufacturers say.
The manufacturer claims that in comparison with other similar systems, the “MURENA” system has an increased number of ammunition – 650 rounds.
“We have developed a bracket for connecting the “sleeve,” which is attached to the standard elements intended for connecting the ammunition box to the PK machine guns, Pecheneg and their modifications,” the manufacturers say.
Claimed weight:
- Nominal (box, sleeve, backpack) – 9 kg.
- Kerb weight (650 rounds, additional barrel, system) – 28 kg.
This bracket securely attaches “MURENA” to the machine gun, ensuring that the system is not detached during use in any case.
The “MURENA” system has a catcher for the empty belt, which is attached to the bracket under the receiver. This catcher is not part of the bracket attached to the “sleeve” of the cartridge, but if necessary, it can be quickly removed or installed.
It should be recalled that Russian volunteers fighting on the side of Ukraine have recently received new PZD 556 machine guns.
