For the fourth time in its history, the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer has returned to the production line in Germany.

Sources of the defense publication Shephard Media reported that the manufacturer received contracts for the production of a total of 22 howitzers, with the possibility of supplying six more units.

“There are plans to purchase additional PzH 2000s, in addition to the orders already received,” the source said.

The tracked self-propelled howitzers will be manufactured in Kassel, where the KNDS Deutschland plant is located.

The first deliveries of the new Panzerhaubitze 2000s to the German army are due in mid-2025.

This announcement marks the fourth time that the PzH 2000 has been put into production with new orders.

The chassis for the last batch of PzN 2000 will be supplied by Rheinmetall from its plant in Kassel.

The new PzH 2000s will replace 14 units supplied to Ukraine from the German army’s stockpile, although the Royal Netherlands Army also supplied eight of these vehicles.

Germany has financed the initial 18 new PzH 2000s for Ukraine, and additional contracts are expected to be placed in the future for a total of 100 units.

Ukraine approached Germany about the purchase of PzH 2000 in April last year and received approval from the German government in July for the potential sale of 100 self-propelled howitzers.

KMW estimated the value of a potential deal for 100 Panzerhaubitze 2000 at €1.7 billion. However, no information about the contract has been released yet.

At the same time, an unnamed customer recently ordered a large batch of barrels for Rheinmetall’s PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzer.
