Reznikov: Ukraine’s coastal defence was strengthened by Harpoon anti-ship systems
Ukraine has already strengthened its own coastal defense with Harpoon anti-ship missiles.
This was announced on Thursday, June 9, by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov.
Weapons for the protection of the Ukrainian coast from the Russian invaders, were handed over to Ukraine by foreign allies who support it in the fight against the aggressor.
Foreign weapons in combination with Ukraine-made RK-360MC Neptune anti-ship missile systems provide defense of the Ukrainian coast.
“Our coastal defence was strengthened by highly effective Harpoon systems. Together with our Neptunes, the Harpoons are already forcing the enemy fleet to keep its distance to avoid the fate of the russian Black Sea Fleet flagship Moskva,” Reznikov said.
As previously reported, Denmark will hand over Harpoon anti-ship missiles and launchers to Ukraine.
The Royal Danish Navy was one of the few operators of the coastal version of the Harpoon missile anti-ship system.
According to open data, the Danish fleet had two batteries of this system as a part of coastal artillery.
The battery included two launchers (each with four launch containers).
The Harpoon coastal missile system has been in service in Denmark during 1988-2003 years.
Three weeks ago the White House reported about the efforts of the Biden’s administration on providing Ukrainian servicemen with anti-ship missiles to help Ukrainians overcome the naval blockade of their ports imposed by Russia.
The Swedish government will supply Ukraine with a new military aid shipment amid Russian aggression. The new defense package includes RBS 17 (Robotsystem 17) anti-ship missiles.
