Rheinmetall is supplying Ukraine with automated reconnaissance systems at the behest of the German government.

The order value is within the double-digit million-euro range.

The company’s press service reported this.

They note that for this project, Rheinmetall is cooperating with the Estonian company DefSecIntel, which manufactures SurveilSPIRE reconnaissance systems. The SurveilSPIRE reconnaissance systems consist of mobile surveillance towers with day and night-capable camera equipment, autopiloted mini drones, and a control system.

The scope of delivery also includes transport vehicles.

The system is primarily used for monitoring large terrain areas with as few personnel as possible.

The received information is processed by special software and artificial intelligence.

The system supply has already begun.

The SurveilSPIRE surveillance towers can be loaded onto trailers and quickly transported to their area of operation. Assembly requires three servicemen. The operation is fully automated.

The system transmits video to the mobile command post wirelessly using 4G or Starlink.

Solar panels enable sustained operation without power cables or a fuel source.

Drones that are part of the system allow patrolling the territory and inspecting detected threats.

SurveilSPIRE is used to monitor and protect borders and coastal zones, ensure public safety, search for enemy targets and threats, and conduct environmental monitoring.

DefSecIntel offers a comprehensive solution depending on the needs of the order and provides training for service personnel.

The company emphasized that Rheinmetall is already participating in several projects in support of Ukraine. Rheinmetall subsidiary Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH will supply Ukraine with a field hospital in 2023.

Also, Ukraine will receive 26 new MAN HX 8×8 trucks with interchangeable cabs.

In addition, Rheinmetall will supply Ukraine with 300,000 ammunition for the Gepard SPAAG. The first deliveries are expected in mid-summer.
