Germany’s Rheinmetall will produce half a million propelling charges for 155-mm projectiles for the Spanish Ministry of Defense.

Rheinmetall announced this.

Under the framework agreement signed with Rheinmetall, half a million propelling charges for 155-mm projectiles will be purchased in a long-range version.

The order, worth up to €205 million, is scheduled for delivery from mid-2024 to the end of 2025.

The order includes an extension option for a further two years, which could significantly increase its value.

According to Rheinmetall, after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Spanish army handed over artillery shells and propelling charges to Ukraine.

This purchase should help Spain fill its depots and enable the country to meet the alliance’s requirements for the number of artillery systems and artillery shells.

In this context, propellant charge systems for the M109 and SIAC 155mm caliber howitzers are being procured.

In March 2024, the Spanish government commissioned Rheinmetall to supply nearly 100,000 new 155-mm ER02A1 projectiles.

They are to be delivered to the Spanish military with a two-year extension between the end of 2024 and the end of 2025.

In addition, the Spanish Ministry of Defense has placed an order for the production of more than 100,000 mortar mines for the Spanish military.

The Spanish Army will receive a total of 104,000 mortar mines of 60, 81, and 120 mm caliber with a total value of about €58 million.
