Romanian President proposes to create a training center for Ukrainian marines
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis addresses the parliament with a proposal to establish a training center in Romania to train Ukrainian marines.
Euractiv reported on this.
In a letter to the parliament, Iohannis emphasized the need for increased military assistance and diversified training for the Ukrainian military.
It was suggested that the center be created within the framework of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG, also known as the Ramstein group) to strengthen Ukraine’s maritime capabilities.
Romania will support the training of Ukrainian marines within its capabilities.
Contributions from the international community will help support the center’s work. In particular, the United Kingdom will provide full funding for its initial development stage.
It is noted that the center will operate for two years, subject to prior approval by military partners.
Romania also reserves the right to withdraw from the obligation at any time during the training process or at the end of the agreed period.
Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr and Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umierov stated on September 12 that a group of Ukrainian Air Force pilots begin training on F-16 fighter jets in Romania.
Back in June, it was announced that Romania would fund the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets at the Feteşti air base.
The country will use the Ministry of Defense budget to cover the costs incurred by Ukrainian pilots and technical personnel while staying at the Romanian air base.
The center was created jointly with other allies and Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer of these American combat aircraft. It meets the training requirements of NATO pilots.
