Russia loses 34 sailors as a result of the Novocherkassk ship’s destruction
As a result of the destruction of the large Project 775 Novocherkassk landing ship of the Black Sea Fleet, Russia lost 34 sailors.
The mother of one of the Russian sailors who died recently posted a photo on social media of a memorial that was unveiled in Novocherkassk, Russia.
The aggressor country’s ship was destroyed last December in temporarily occupied Crimea.
Two memorial plaques bear the names of 34 crew members of the Russian ship who were killed.
As a reminder, on the night of December 26, 2023, the Ukrainian Air Force attacked the Novocherkassk large amphibious assault ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet with cruise missiles.
At the time of the strike, the Russian invaders were using the ship to transport explosive cargo, likely ammunition.
The ship was hit while docked in the port of Feodosia. After being hit by cruise missiles, a fire started on the ship, resulting in a powerful detonation that led to its complete destruction.
The Project 775 Novocherkassk large landing ship became the fifth large amphibious assault ship of the Russian Navy to be destroyed by Ukrainian defenders in the Black Sea.
At the end of October 2024, the Russian invaders started raising the remains of the ship from the seabed.
A photo of one part of the landing ship’s hull was posted by a member of the Russian forum Aviabaza, who was likely also involved in the scrapping process.
According to the author, the picture captures the stern of the ship being raised.
Due to the lack of tasks to conduct naval landing operations, the Russian airborne forces are involved in the transportation of various cargoes and equipment to the territory of occupied Crimea.
