Russia received ammunition manufactured by Myanmar

An artillery ammunition manufactured by Myanmar was spotted in service with the Russian military.

Analysts from Ukraine Weapons Tracker showcased photos and said that the Russians use 120mm mortar rounds from Myanmar.

Most of the markings on the ammunition were erased, but it was possible to identify the 120ER mortar rounds due to the specific shape of the fins, residual markings and fuses.

Previously, the supply of ammunition to Russia from Myanmar was not reported.

Nevertheless, Russian diplomats constantly tried to establish close ties with Myanmar.

Back in February 2023, the United States stated their concern about the cooperation of the Myanmar junta and Russia.

After the coup d’état in February 2021, military-controlled Myanmar has rapidly expanded nuclear and defense cooperation with Russia.

Last September, Senior General Min Aung Hline visited Russia to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum and agreed with Russia on a roadmap for nuclear cooperation, including the possibility of implementing a small modular reactor project in Myanmar.

In addition, last December, a Russian delegation of about a dozen senior military officers led by Colonel General Alexei Kim visited Myanmar. According to Myanmar’s state media, the parties focused on defense cooperation.

According to the U.S. State Department, many reliable reports suggest that Russia provides the Myanmar military with weapons that “perpetuate violence, atrocities and human rights violations against the people of Burma.”

In 2022, it became known that the Myanmar Air Force received the first two Russian Su-30SME fighters. Myanmar thus became the first customer and recipient of the Su-30SME fighters – export version of the fighter Su-30SM.

Recall that Russian state defense enterprises also buy back components sold earlier to India and Myanmar for military equipment and missile weapons.
