Russia receives a batch of Chekan armored vehicles
The Russian company AVD handed over a batch of Chekan armored vehicles of various versions to the invaders.
This was reported by Russian media.
The St. Petersburg-based AVD company, which specializes in car armoring and vehicle repair, handed over a batch of at least four Chekan vehicles.
The vehicles are manufactured by refurbishing Russian Ural-4320 three-axle trucks, which are capable of carrying a payload of over 6 tons.
The batch included two types of vehicles: an armored personnel carrier version and a truck with an armored body adapted for infantry transportation.
The level of ballistic protection of the latter is unknown, but it can be assumed that it is capable of protecting against light fragments. The KUNG’s sides have loopholes for firing from under the armor.
The armored personnel carrier version of the Chekan has a squad compartment combined with the driver’s cab. The vehicle has a more sophisticated design and a V-shaped bottom to dissipate the energy of an explosion under the wheel.
It is armed with a closed turret with a KPVT 14.5mm machine gun and a PKT 7.62mm. It is equipped with a night vision system.
There is little reliable information about this vehicle. The first units in the armored personnel carrier version were seen in use by Russian mercenaries of the Wagner PMC during the campaign in Syria and later in Libya. At the same time, they suffered their first losses from ambushes and mine explosions.
With the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, they found themselves on the territory of Ukraine, where they were used by the same Russian mercenaries. Later, apparently simplified versions with a van body appeared for the first time.
In combat, the vehicles showed a certain level of mine protection that allowed the crew to survive being hit by anti-tank mines and explosive devices.
Earlier, Militarnyi reported that the Russian army had received a batch of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and BMD-4M amphibious infantry fighting vehicles.
