Russia uses Belgorod civilian airport in the war against Ukraine
The Russian army is using the Belgorod International Airport for military purposes.
“Schemy” (Radio Svoboda) reported about this.
This Russian airfield had previously processed exclusively civilian flights.
The satellite recorded aircraft and military equipment of the Russian army on the territory of the civilian airport.
The photos are at the disposal of journalists who analyzed them together with a military analyst.
Planet Labs recorded eight helicopters and several motor vehicles on the territory of the Belgorod civilian airport on May 14. A military expert believes that the helicopters seen on the territory of the airport are Mi-8s.
There are also tents observed near the runway where the helicopters are located. These may contain personnel, combat kits, or fuel.
In the eastern part of the airport, satellite images show traces of vehicles passing through. Part of the territory nearby has been excavated.
It is suggested that the Russian military might be using the civilian airport to remove wounded and dead soldiers from the Donbas war zone, or as a trans-shipment point for refueling aircraft.
According to the Federal Air Transport Agency of Russia, currently, all flights at Belgorod Airport and other airports in central and southern Russia are “limited” due to the hostilities.
Last week, it was reported that Russia continues expanding its troops in the Belgorod region to maintain their positions around the city of Kharkiv and prevent the Ukrainian Defense Forces from reaching the state border.
Currently, in the Kharkiv region, the enemy’s units are focusing on maintaining their positions. Recently, Ukrainian forces captured a Russian tank ammunition depot.
