Russians form a mechanized battalion from the crew of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier
The Russian Navy has formed a “Frigate” mechanized battalion from the crew of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.
This conclusion can be drawn from the reports of OSINT researcher moklasen in X.
The researcher drew attention to a message asking for help to find men from military unit 78987 on the social media Vkontakte.
It is known that the “Fregat” battalion was initially located in the Kharkiv region, but was later redeployed to the Pokrovsk sector.
Earlier, in August, it became known about the disappearance of sailor Oleg Sosedov from the crew of the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, who had gone missing on 23 July during the storming of the frontier village of Sotnytskii Kozachok in the Kharkiv region.
It turned out that Sosedov had also been from military unit No. 78987.
The Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, the only one in the Russian Navy, has been undergoing repairs for a long time.
The cruiser went under overhaul in 2017 after an operation on the Syrian coast. In October 2018, it was leaving the PD-50 shipyard of the 82nd Roslyakovo shipyard when it began to sink. The accident caused a crane to fall onto the cruiser’s deck and damage it.
The ship’s repairs continued, but a year later, a large-scale fire broke out on the Admiral Kuznetsov. At least 6 people were injured.
The ship was supposed to be repaired until 2024, but it is likely to continue.
The Russians are also forming infantry units from the Aerospace Forces members.
According to Russian propagandist Ilya Tumanov, such units are involved in the battles for Kursk.
