Servicemen of Ukraine trained with Paladin self-propelled howitzers
Ukrainian gunners are mastering American M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzers at an intensive pace.
Military Television of Ukraine showed footage of their training at one of the training grounds.
In January, the United States pledged to supply the Ukrainian army with 18 Paladin artillery systems.
Ukrainian military should also receive 18 ammunition support vehicles.
For the first time, the Ukrainian army will be armed with American 155mm M109A6 Paladin tracked self-propelled howitzers.
At present, Ukraine is already equipped with 155 M109 ACS, which come from Italy, Latvia, Norway, and the M109A4BE artillery systems purchased by the British government from the defense company OIP Land Systems.
The M109A6 Paladin is manufactured by the American BAE Systems.
The Paladin entered service with the US Army in the mid-1990s, providing an upgraded artillery system with enhanced capabilities compared to its predecessors.
This tracked self-propelled artillery system is an important weapon of the US Army. As an improved version of the M109 series, the A6 designation has an advantage over previous models.
The main armament of the M109A6 Paladin is a 155-mm M284 cannon with a barrel length of 39 calibers, mounted in a turret on an M182 gun mount.
The howitzer has a firing range of 24 kilometers with conventional projectiles and 30 kilometers of rocket-assisted projectiles.
As additional armament, a 12.7-mm M2 machine gun is mounted on the turret of the self-propelled howitzer on the right. Also, self-propelled howitzers have a modern on-board navigation system and an automated fire control system.
