Spain transferred additional tanks and artillery shells to Ukraine
The Spanish Ministry of Defense has transferred weapons to Ukraine as part of a new military aid package.
El Mundo reported on this.
The new package includes an additional number of battle tanks and artillery shells.
Leopard 2A4 tanks have been repaired and modernized for delivery to Ukraine.
It should be noted that the transferred tanks were previously stored at the Casetas storage base and were classified by the Spanish Ministry of Defense as inferior combat units because they needed to be repaired and modernized.
In total, Spain planned to transfer 20 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine, but it is not clear how many tanks were transferred as part of this military aid package.
In addition, an unknown amount of ammunition was transferred, including 155-mm artillery shells manufactured by the Spanish company Expal.
Also, counter drone systems, optoelectronic surveillance and tracking systems, and modules for remote control of weapons were transferred.
According to Spanish government sources, this aid was transferred to Ukraine on Friday, June 21, 2024, and is currently in full force and effect on the territory of Ukraine.
In addition to military assistance, the Spanish company General Dynamics European Land Systems has proposed to the Spanish government to produce up to 50 ASCOD infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine within a year.
The announcement followed a March meeting between the president and representatives of the national defense industry and the recently signed defense agreement with Ukraine, under which Spain guaranteed $1 billion in support.
