Sweden announces $9.33 million for Ukrainian civil defense

The Swedish government has announced a $9.33 million aid package for Ukraine in the area of civil defense.

Ihor Klymenko, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, announced this.

The announcement was made during Klymenko’s meeting with Carl-Oscar Bolin, Swedish Minister of Civil Defense.

It is also reported that the officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the ministries during the visit.

The aid package includes two patrol vessels, 24 passenger cars, a minibus, a truck, and personal protective equipment to be provided by the Swedish Coast Guard.

Also, 40,000 protective masks with filters will be purchased for use by Ukrainian rescuers.

The aid has yet to be approved by the Swedish government and is funded under a three-year financial program for Ukraine, totaling SEK 75 billion.

In addition, as part of the Memorandum, the Swedish Coast Guard will cooperate with the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service in the areas of experience exchange and training.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Swedish PBV 302 (Pansarbandvagn 302) tracked armored personnel carriers arrived in Ukraine and are now in service with the Ground Forces.

Soldiers noted the vehicle’s easy handling, comfortable ride, and practical design.

Sweden announced the transfer of all available PBV 302 APCs to Ukraine in late May. The vehicles are intended to equip newly formed brigades.

Swedish Civil Defense

On September 12, it was reported that the Swedish government announced plans to double its civil defense budget over the next three years.

The additional funds will reportedly be used to strengthen health and rescue services, food and drinking water supplies, and transportation and energy infrastructure.

The largest funds will be allocated to healthcare and social assistance.
