Sweden will transfer SEK 50 million (about $5 million) to the NATO Fund to help Ukraine.

The press service of the country’s government announced this.

“The money will be used to support projects that lack funding,” Sweden reported.

In particular, the funds will cover:

  • procurement of defense equipment;
  • procurement of fuel;
  • procurement of medicines;
  • procurement of demining equipment.

In addition, Sweden will donate SEK 5 million to the NATO Defence and Related Security Capacity Building (DCB) Initiative for Moldova.

The funds, according to the government, will be used to purchase equipment, training, and support reforms.

In addition, another SEK 5 million will be provided to Georgia. The funds will be used for projects in areas such as crisis management, cybersecurity, and intelligence sharing.

Previously, Swedish Minister of Civil Defense Carl-Oscar Bohlin noted that “citizens must be prepared for the outbreak of war.”

After Russia started a full-scale war in Ukraine, Sweden, along with Finland, abandoned the policy of military neutrality that the two Scandinavian countries had been following for decades.

Their intention received expedited approval from all NATO members, with the exception of Turkey and Hungary. At the same time, all decisions within the alliance must be unanimous.
