The National Guard of Ukraine units assumed control over the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
The National Guard of Ukraine units have arrived at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) and now have the object under their protection.
Militarnyi reports about this with reference to the “Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant” State Specialised Enterprise.
“Today, on April 5th, the National Guard of Ukraine units arrived at the Chornobyl NPP and took the object under their protection. The main tasks of the National Guard at the site include the protection and defense of the nuclear facilities and the physical protection of nuclear materials,” reads the statement.
It is noted that at the moment, the critical tasks of the enterprise lie within checking the safety of the site and its transport infrastructure; radiation condition inspection of the premises and facilities of the station in which the Russian Federation troops were located (and who completely disregarded the rules of radiation safety).
Also, the personnel rotation for the current shift is expected. The last time the staff rotation happened on March 20, when 46 volunteer workers were deployed to the Chornobyl site. Also, the 13 workers who continued to stay in the workplace for approximately 1,000 hours since the capture will be rotated.
On March 31, Russian troops, who had been seizing the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and other facilities in the Exclusion Zone, have marched the two military columns towards the Ukrainian border with Belarus. National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine “Energoatom” later reported that, as of the evening of March 31, there were no invaders at the Chornobyl site.
Russian troops had captured the Chornobyl Nuclear Power plant on the first day of the aggression, February 24. Only on March 20th, it became possible to proceed with the partial rotation of Chornobyl personnel and evacuation of those being kept there.
