The US is preparing a $325 million defense package for Ukraine
US President Joe Biden plans to announce a $325 million military aid package for Ukraine on Thursday.
Reuters reports on this, citing an anonymous source among US officials.
The defense aid package is expected to include a second batch of 155 mm cluster munitions.
It is reported that other new weapons for Ukraine were expected to be announced around the time of Biden’s meeting with Zelensky.
However, ATACMS missiles are not currently in discussion, the U.S. official shared.
In addition, Washington plans to transfer more Avenger short-range air defense systems that use Stinger missiles.
The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air defense missile systems were put on combat duty in Ukraine in April this year.
The planned aid package for Ukraine will also include TOW and AT4 anti-tank weapons, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and Javelin anti-tank missiles, along with other equipment.
The package was still being finalized and could change, the U.S. official said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to visit Capitol Hill on Thursday morning to meet lawmakers before holding White House talks with Joe Biden later on Thursday.
Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, the United States has provided more than $40 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.
At the beginning of September, it was reported that the United States might soon decide to provide Ukraine with ATACMS tactical ballistic missiles.
