The United States announced a new $175 million military aid package for Ukraine.

This is stated in the press release, which is published on the website of the U.S. Department of Defense.

The package will include AIM-9M and AIM-7 missiles for Ukrainian air defense.

In October 2023, it was reported that Ukraine had received a new air defense system that uses AIM-9M missiles.

The AIM-9 air-to-air missile, which should strengthen the air defense of Ukraine, has an infrared homing head.

The missiles are compatible with most modern fighters. However, the transmitted AIM-9M missiles armed the ground launcher of Ukraine.

In their turn, AIM-7 anti-aircraft missiles with radar guidance are capable of launching ground anti-aircraft missile systems.

According to previous reports by the U.S. media, the Ukrainian defense industry was supposedly able to integrate these American missiles with Buk air defense launchers.

In total, the new package includes:

  • AIM-9M and AIM-7 missiles for air defense;
  • Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
  • 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds;
  • High-speed Anti-radiation missiles (HARMs);
  • Tube-launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles;
  • Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems;
  • More than 4 million rounds of small arms ammunition;
  • Vehicles to tow and haul equipment;
  • Demolition munitions for obstacle clearing;
  • Equipment to protect critical national infrastructure;
  • Spare parts, maintenance, and other auxiliary equipment.

The U.S. State Department report indicates that if Congress does not approve the president’s request for additional national security funding, it would be one of the latest security assistance packages for Ukraine.

The Joe Biden administration still has about $5 billion out of a congressional budget approved last year to provide military aid from American stockpiles.

The day before, Democrats in the U.S. Senate introduced a national security funding package worth about $111 billion to help Ukraine and Israel, as well as measures aimed at protecting the southern border. A vote for him in the upper house of Congress will take place later Wednesday.
