U.S. to Unblock Aid to Ukraine After Peace Talks with Russia Begin

The United States is calling for Ukraine to initiate negotiations with Russia as a condition for resuming intelligence sharing and arms supplies, according to U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, as reported by Axios.

According to Axios, the United States halted intelligence exchanges that supported attacks on Russian territory. Mike Waltz indicates that preparations are underway for a new round of talks between the U.S. and Ukraine.

When asked about the U.S. suspension of intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Waltz stated that the U.S. is ‘taking a step back’ to pause and reassess all aspects of the relationship.

“However, I recently spoke with my colleague, the Ukrainian National Security Adviser. We are having productive discussions about the venue, delegation composition, and agenda for the next round of talks. In the 24 hours following President Zelensky’s public statement, and with these ongoing conversations, I believe we will see progress very soon,” Waltz remarked.

Waltz highlighted that the restoration of military aid to Ukraine could be considered if peace talks are successful and ‘confidence-building measures’ are implemented.

U.S. intelligence agencies play a crucial role by supplying the Ukrainian Defense Forces with vital information on Russian troops in both occupied territories and within Russia itself.

This information plays an important role in strikes on Russian strategic targets.

Arms supplies

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the suspension of all U.S. military aid to Ukraine. This decision affects both weapons that were agreed upon for shipment during the Biden administration but have not yet been delivered, as well as those already en route to the Ukrainian border from the United States.

According to a Pentagon official speaking anonymously, the United States is halting all current military assistance to Ukraine until President Trump determines that Ukraine’s leadership has shown a ‘good faith commitment to peace.’

On the evening of March 5, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukrainian and U.S. teams had begun preparations for the upcoming meeting and expressed hope for initial results by next week.

“Andrii Yermak and Michael Waltz have spoken, and there is positive momentum. We expect the first results next week,” Zelensky said in his evening address.
