Ukraine needs NATO-standard level weapons – Reznikov
Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine addressed international partners with a proposal to transfer weapons of NATO standards to Ukraine.
Militarnyi informs about it.
Ukraine needs to get the weapons used by the NATO countries as soon as possible, said Oleksiy Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine while addressing the partner countries.
This would be the best solution for many reasons.
“Previously, we were focusing on obtaining Soviet-style weapons. This was a logical decision since these weapons could go into battle right away as we know how to use it. They would be quickly strengthening our defense in the critical period.
But the Soviet weapons we need are scarce. They are often in poor condition as they were produced 30 to 40 years ago. There is also a lack of ammunition for it. Under these conditions, the Soviet weapons we would be receiving could strengthen Ukraine only for a short run,” said the Minister.
It will also serve as a powerful signal to Russia that it will not succeed in depleting the Ukrainian army. On the contrary, the cost of war for Russia will dramatically increase.
The Ukrainian army will be able to put up effective resistance. This will be the best incentive to de-escalate and seek peace. The Minister of Defense is convinced that the Ukrainian military will quickly master the new weapons.
“They have already demonstrated that they are capable of using Western systems in combat conditions extremely effectively. The losses of the enemy, which I mentioned at the beginning, are proof of this. We urge you to provide us with heavy weapons as soon as possible,” Reznikov said.
For example, 155 mm caliber artillery is being used in different countries. There will be no shortage of shells, as compared with the Soviet systems. This will not be short-term, but a systemic solution.
As reported earlier, yesterday, on April 7th, Dmytro Kuleba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, made it clear that his visit to Brussels was effective and that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be receiving weapons to achieve the win the war with Russia.
According to Dmytro Kuleba, “The main question now is not what will be shipped over to us, but when. Every day matters and every day we work for the result, which is already there and will be more.”
