Ukrainian Furia drone withstands attack by Russian FPV drone
The Ukrainian reconnaissance drone Furia has withstood a hit from an invader’s FPV drone.
Athlon Avia, a company that manufactures these drones, announced that the Russian anti-aircraft FPV drone caused only minor damage.
After the strike, the Ukrainian drone lost control for a while but then stabilized and continued its flight.
‘The drone sustained minor damage, which was repaired on the spot, and is now back in action,’ the drone’s manufacturers shared.
This is the first recorded case of Russian invaders attempting to shoot down a Ukrainian reconnaissance man using an FPV drone.
Athlon Avia has developed and manufactured the A1-SM Furia since 2014. Over 100 systems have been produced in various modifications during this time.
The manufacturer claims that Furia has a cruising speed of 65 km/h and a range of up to 200 km.
Shooting down such a drone with an FPV drone is quite a challenge.
In turn, the Ukrainian Defence Forces have been successfully and massively shooting down Russian reconnaissance drones with FPV drones for a long time.
Intercepting reconnaissance drones with the help of other drones is a relatively new and promising area of air defense development.
Shooting down reconnaissance drones using FPV has already become quite common in Ukraine. It is not unlikely that the Ukrainian defense industry is currently developing a full-fledged FPV-based anti-drone system.
A Ukrainian interceptor drone recently shot down a Russian ZALA Lancet loitering munition over Ukrainian-controlled Sudzha.
