Ukrainian Paratroopers Destroy Rare Sarmat-3 Armored Vehicle in Kursk Oblast
In the Kursk oblast, Ukrainian paratroopers destroyed a rare Russian LSTS-1944 Sarmat-3 armored vehicle.
The combat mission was carried out by the Wild Division unit of the 82nd separate airborne assault brigade.
The Sarmat-3 is the latest version of the eponymous line of military vehicles manufactured by Technika.
Presumably, the vehicle was used by Russian paratroopers.
The Sarmat-3 armored vehicle is designed to be used by special forces of the Russian Airborne Forces and is available in light unarmored and armored versions.
The family of these vehicles was created in the 2010s, and work on the Sarmat-3 project was completed only in 2016-2017.
The combat weight of the vehicle is 3.5 tons. The body can carry a load of up to 900 kilograms or 4 equipped soldiers.
The armored vehicle is quite fast. The vehicle is equipped with a 4-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 150 hp, which is capable of reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.
The Sarmat-3 can be armed with a 7.62-mm or 12.7-mm machine gun, an AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher, or anti-tank missile systems.
There is also a medical version called Sarmat-3ME, which has an elongated armored hull that can accommodate two wounded on a stretcher.
The first such armored vehicle was destroyed by the Ukrainian military in October 2024, also in the Kursk oblast.
In the Kursk oblast, soldiers of the 82nd Air Assault Brigade often destroy rare Russian armored vehicles. In October, the paratroopers showed the “road of death” in Kursk oblast, which contained many destroyed armored vehicles.
