Unidentified drones spotted over a port in Denmark

Danish police are investigating the appearance of unknown drones in the airspace above the port of Køge.

The Danish media DR reported on this.

“We do not know where the drones came from or what they were doing. We have been in contact with several other authorities in this case, but we do not know why the drones were over Køge. We are now trying to find out,” Michael Sehested, Deputy Inspector of the Danish Police, reported.

According to the police dispatcher on duty, Asger Bechstrøm, the flights are considered illegal, as no permits for drone flights in the area have been issued.

Police in Mid and West Zealand received a report of drones around 10:30 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025.

“A witness believed he spotted up to 20 large drones flying over the area around the marina in Køge. So we dispatched a patrol to the area, and they were able to record four drones,” Michael Sehedsted stated.

The last drones were spotted at around 1:16 am when they disappeared over the sea at high speed, the police district noted.

Unidentified reconnaissance drones over Europe

In 2024, Europe saw high activity of unidentified, mostly reconnaissance drones.

They were recorded both over critical infrastructure facilities and military industry enterprises and military installations.

For example, in August 2024, unidentified drones reconnoitered the Kongsberg production facility in Norway, where anti-ship missiles are manufactured.

Drones were spotted flying over industrial facilities in northern Germany, including a nuclear power plant. According to the criminal police’s preliminary version, these are Orlan-10 drones that Russians Russians can launch from ships in the North Sea to conduct reconnaissance for sabotage purposes.

In November, unidentified drones were spotted over the RAF Lakenheath airbase in the UK, where, among other things, American F-15E and F-35A fighter jets are based.
