US to allocate $2.5 billion of military aid to Ukraine
On Thursday, January 19, the United States released a list of the next package of military assistance to Ukraine.
The new $2.5 billion aid package included wheeled and tracked armored vehicles.
Ukraine will also receive ammunition for various weapons systems, as well as short-range air defense systems.
The new aid package consists of 90 Stryker Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) with 20 mine rollers and 59 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) with590 TOW anti-tank missiles and 295,000 rounds of 25mm ammunition for their autocannons.
The United States is also transferring to Ukraine additional missiles for M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems and NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.
Eight Avenger short-range air defense systems are also included in the package.
Ukraine also received 53 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs) and 350 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs).
To replenish Ukrainian ammunition, the United States will transfer 20,000 155mm artillery rounds, approximately 600 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds and 95,000 105mm artillery rounds and about 11,800 120mm mortar rounds.
In addition, the military aid package contains High-speed Anti-radiation missiles (HARMs) aircraft missiles, approximately 2,000 anti-tank missiles and more than 3,000,000 small arms ammunition, as well as M18A1 Claymore anti-personnel mines.
Ukraine will receive 12 ammunition support vehicles, 6 command post vehicles and 22 tactical vehicles to tow weapons.
Moreover, the assistance package included demolition equipment for obstacle clearing, night vision devices, as well as spare parts and other field equipment.
This is the thirtieth military aid package allocated from the US Department of Defense stockpile since August 2021. Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion in February 2022, total American military assistance to Kyiv already exceeds $26.7 billion.
