A sea mine was neutralized in the Bosphorus

On March 26, Turkish authorities closed the passage through the Bosphorus in both directions after reports from the crew of a civilian ship of a suspicious object resembling a sea mine, writes Anadolu.

The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Turkey, which announced the closure of the strait, first located an unidentified object.

A team of divers was sent to the waters of the strait to neutralize the threat.

The movement of vessels in the strait in both directions for several hours was stopped.

An unknown object was reported by a civilian vessel passing through the Bosphorus.

As a result of the research, it was established that it was an old-type mine, it was neutralized by Turkish sappers of the submarine defense group, after which navigation through the strait was restored.

Earlier, Russia mined areas of the Black Sea near Ukraine and spread information that these mines could reach the Bosphorus.

Russian sources reported the placement of 420 mines at sea.

Following the incident, Turkey asked the Ukrainian and Russian sides for consultations.
