The military of Ukraine is seen with M777A2 towed howitzers, which have a full set of systems.

The video with the howitzer and the Ukrainian military was released by analysts from Ukraine Weapons Tracker.

This is the first time when an American howitzer in the full kit was seen in the hands of the Ukrainian military. Presumably, the video was shot during a training exercise at a training ground in Europe.

The M777 155 mm towed howitzer is a successful attempt to maximize such advantages of towed guns as small dimensions and weight, and mobility.

The first modification of the M777 was equipped only with optical fire control.

In 2005, production of the M777A1 version began. It is normally equipped with a digital TAD fire control system, including an inertial navigation unit, a satellite global positioning, a radio line terminal, displays of the commander, gunner and his assistant, a ballistic station, and a computer.

Released in 2007 M777A2 is equipped with TAD-PIK, providing the use of an M982 Excalibur guided projectile.

The first M777A2 howitzers sent from the United States to Ukraine lacked GPS and TAD-PIK modules.

Recall that recently it became known that the United States will provide Ukraine with 1000 high precision ammunition for 155-mm artillery as part of a new military assistance package.

Ammunition has the same capabilities as GPS-guided “Excalibur.”

President Biden administration’s official said precision-guided munitions should help Ukrainians save ammunition.

An alternative to the M982 Excalibur is PGK (Precision Guidance Kit) M1156, if considering GPS-use guidance. This is a “smart” fuze, which is installed in conventional 155-mm ammunition and turns them into precision. The PGK has a GPS receiver and rudders that adjust the flight path of the ammunition.
