Captured Nona mortars received American rounds
The Ukrainian military received American mortar rounds for the captured Nona 120mm mortars.
Analysts from the Tysk information resource showed footage of these ammunition being used.
2S23 Nona-SVK self-propelled mortar and 2B16 Nona-K towed mortar crews received American 1101 mortar rounds.
These 120mm mortars were captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the full-scale invasion of Russia. It is also worth noting that in Ukraine there was Nona-K mortar, which was located in the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy and which probably also came into service with the Armed Forces.
The М1101 mortar rounds are delivered in a metal tube.
In the tube, there is one round equipped with a fuze and a tail cartridge inserted into the stabilizer.
On the shank, there are additional bundles of red (in the amount of four pieces), yellow (five pieces) and green (two pieces) colors.
Nona-SVK self-propelled mortar’s seizure became known in March 2022.
The mortar was captured during the battles for the liberation of settlements in the Kharkiv region.
The Ukrainian military began using Nona-K mortars last fall.
It was known that the Ukrainian military used American mortar rounds during the use of the French MO-120-RT61 120mm towed mortar.
Structurally, the RT61 consists of a rifled barrel with a breech, a baseplate, and a carriage with a wheel stroke. When firing, the wheels are not separated, which makes it easy to roll the mortar in the case of a change of position.
